Q: Hi Beth Ann, congratulations on being selected as a Dior Maven! Looking back, who has inspired you & made a tremendous impact in your life and why?
My father, Morris Clark was a double amputee due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and confined to a wheelchair. Despite his disabilities, he never stopped working a very demanding job, never let anyone feel sorry for him, or let them help him. Most people will say that he was the hardest working person they ever knew, both before and after losing his legs.
Q: How do you balance being a mother & running your own non-profit organization & what have you sacrificed (both personally and professionally) at each stage of your career?
There is no need to balance anything, my children, who are now in their mid-20’s and I have run Sheltering Books, Inc. together from the beginning. In fact, it was actually my daughter who started it. As it grew, we all pitched in to work. Unfortunately, my daughter’s health is not good, so I now do most of the work.

Q: As a female leader, what has been the most significant barrier in your career and how did you overcome that?
There have not been any barriers at all.
Q: What motivates you & what fuels your drive?
I would say that keeping busy, being a role model to my children and being out in the community helping others, especially children, is what fuels my drive.

Q: What's been your most successful approach in building business relationships & why?
Besides running Sheltering Books, Inc. I also work in medical marketing doing the referring physician outreach. The quality that I feel helps me to be successful is my ability to talk with anyone. Communicating with others comes very easy to me and in my profession, speaking with doctors and medical staff is what I do all day. My former boss used to say I could talk to a wall.

Q: What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
To find something they are passionate about and give it all you’ve got! Always speak up, delete things from your social media that you posted in high school, do not call your boss by their first name, unless they ask you to and learn how to say no!
Q: What are the lessons you've gained that have profoundly shifted your professional path?
That my gift of gab led me to my career in medical outreach for Dermatology Consultants.
