Q: Hi Silvia, you’ve had a series of creative collaborations under your belt and you make these ventures so seamless. How do you decide who to collaborate with and with this project, what roles and responsibilities did each of you took on when you decided to have this joint venture?

The collaboration between Brandon and myself happened organically and in the flow. I walked into his shop one Sunday afternoon with Marissa from @tavola_rosa after an event we hosted at Bella Cucina and I immediately loved the energy he exuded. Brandon’s authentic and witty personality seemed so well translated in his handcrafted work. Every hat looked like a piece of art. We talked about food, fashion, dreams and decided right there to reach for the stars by creating a hat collection together.

Q: How did you inject Good Tidings signature look into B.M. Franklin & Company?

It was a process of purification. We started by adding four Good Tidings elements to the hat and removed a piece every time we united our creative brain. The more we worked together and focused on the style and texture of the hat, the less distraction we wanted to add. The final version of our hat collection has an embroidered crown on the side representing BM Franklin with a delicate turquoise stone embedded in silver inside of it.

Q: What is your shared/collective purpose in design?

Our purpose is to inspire and give back by creating beauty and most of all to have a fun while doing it. 


Q: What is the difference between fast fashion and slow fashion in terms of designing custom hats?

Our goal is to bring a unique accessory that will be treasured and cared for with love and won’t be tossed after a few wears. We hope our customers will see the value in buying a timeless hat that is made by Brandon in his local shop with Good Tidings details of leftover leather pieces used for our purses & a turquoise stone that is handcrafted by Navajo American Indian people in New Mexico.

Q: What's been the most notable hat trend with your collaboration?

Neither of us follow trends. We were guided by our own inspiration in the creative process. Brandon has an eye for classic organic materials in the perfect textured earth tones while I believe the magic of a hat is felt by balancing feminine ‘allure’ and masculine ‘power’. We feel accomplished in our desire to bring timeless elegance to every customer buying a hat from our collection.

Q: What's next for you?

Last year I have worked at a pace that is hard to maintain long term, so I am trying to take it a little slower until August. While visiting friends and family overseas, I will enjoy the fruit of what we have created last year. I can see Brandon and I collaborating a winter collection starting this fall.
