BM Franklin was originally based in NYC. Brandon works with the finest fur-felts and hand-woven straws from all over the world. Brandon’s creative mindset is not to re-invent the wheel or meddle with the craft; but to add expression and creativity through the pieces he produces. Hi Silvia, welcome back to CityBox. This is an exciting second collaboration with Good Tidings and BM Franklin. An artistic collaboration is when two creative forces decide to work together to create something and there is an exchange of value. What inspired you to do a second collab with Brandon Franklin?
Our collab happened very spontaneous and organic. I had heard about this fabulous NYC hat maker for a while and out of curiosity I walked into his shop in Buckhead one day. Little did I know Brandon had been following my journey too. We immediately felt a connection and decided right there in that moment to create a hat collection together. You know you have found the right person to work with if you don’t need too many words to understand each other. When the energy feels aligned, things happen fast.

What's different with this project and what are you most excited about that you want everyone to know about? This is our second collaboration together. We created a winter hat made from rabbit fur felt with premium silk lining. We kept the signature BM Franklin crown and our turquoise stone consistent in this new collab.

How do you measure a successful collaboration? When both artists feel they have expressed the highest version of their craft by merging their vision. When they have created a product together that represents the brand of both parties equally. Sales flow automatically if that goal has been attained.

Creatives are known to stay up in the wee hours, when do you feel the most creative? I feel the most creative in the early morning before the world wakes up. I might go for an early walk-in nature or meditate. During those moments of stillness, I feel the creativity flow through my veins. In those moments it feels pure, authentic, and guided.

Who do you admire in the fashion industry and how has that influenced your designs? I admire the designs of Yves Saint Laurent. They have inspired me for this hat collection as well as our summer collection. I love the combination of subtle, but high quality material and a dramatic style. Saint Laurent’s collections show how masculine power and feminine strength flow as one.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Traveling inspires my soul and takes me away from the hectic schedules at home. Working out grounds me and gives me energy. Spending time with family shows me what love is. Good Tidings is my playground, so I am always, but never, working.

Which social media platforms do you use the most? Instagram and Facebook are still my go to and connect me to my customers, to family and friends all around the world. I still feel resistance towards Tik Tok, I am probably old school. ;-)

Where do you see yourself in five or ten years? We are growing internationally but above all we want to stay connected to the local source of all our handcrafted quality products. In the coming months we are planning on visiting our Native American Indian artists in New Mexico to create a deeper bond with them, to understand their culture, their past, their present. In the next couple of years we want to provide a home in the USA and in Europe where the spirit of Good Tidings is felt. We want this home to be a healing space where our artisans, customers, friends and family feel welcome and understood.
